Yes, GF products are expensive!! 02/29/2012
Since Gluten Free foods are a specialty item the price is higher than "normal" food. I've been trying to keep the GF foods on specific shelves, cupboards etc, but it is still hard for the kids to know what they can or cannot eat. In time I hope to achieve a GF home, however for now that is not possible. Ideally a GF diet will be good for the kids too, however at this time....I would like them to keep their hands off the $2 muffins. Yes, PER muffin!! Leon had a great idea for us to put labels on the GF products. They are round 1" flourescent orange labels that say GF. It will also be beneficial for Leon as he'll only be able to touch the foods with the label! If you are interested in purchasing some labels for your own use, you may do so from us. For 252 1" flourescent orange GF Labels (4 sheets) the price is $5 shipping included. Please email me your request and I will forward you an invoice. I hope to set up a paypal button soon! An easy way to shop for GF products... 02/27/2012
I do not like to shop. I've never been good at going from grocery store to grocery store to try to get the best deals. I like to go to one store and get it done. Shopping for GF items is like shopping for the deals. Each store has a small section with GF items. The product varies at each store so in order to have more selection in our cupboards I need to go to all the different grocery stores in our area. Nope. No way. Not happening! So thank goodness for Well.ca! Well.ca is Canada's favourite online health and wellness store with over 35,000 products to choose from and they offer free shipping to anywhere in Canada. I can choose from an extensive list of GF products and it gets shipped directly to our door. I love it!! :) I can offer you a Well.ca coupon worth $10.00 CAD! In order to redeem the $10 coupon, you must be a new customer with an order of $40 or more. That's a 25% savings! Enter coupon code themoshers at checkout. Happy shopping! Amazing...and it has not yet been two weeks! 02/23/2012
I just ate two pieces of toast that we ordered and then purchased yesterday from Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet and I wanted to take a quick moment to share. Absolutely delicious! Since eating GF I never have that heavy feeling any more in my stomach after I eat. I ate the bread, it was delicous, my hunger is gone, and I do not have a bloated feeling in my belly. I feel like I have more energy because I don't feel waited down. Amazing.... Away from home so where do we eat?? 02/22/2012
On Sunday we had to make an unexpected trip into Halifax. Someday I hope to have "planned lunches" to take with us when we go...but I haven't mastered that yet! It was suppertime, we were hungry, and where could we go. Luckily I remembered hearing or reading somewhere that Smitty's offered a GF menu. So off to Smitty's in Lacewood we went. The waitress was so accomodating and helpful. It may not have been a huge selection but the selection they had was enough. We were able to eat! Leon had a mushroom, bacon and cheese omelette with two slices of GF Bread from Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet. I had bacon, scrambled eggs and two slices of the GF Bread too. Boy was it yummy!! They offered one choice for dessert. Carrot cake from Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet. Leon and I shared a piece and it was wonderfully delicious. We left the restaurant feeling satisfied and happy. Leon had a coffee and I had water. Our bill was approx $33. We were pleased. :) First Post! 02/12/2012
Blogging is new for me. Ranting isn't. :) This blog is about me sharing. Sharing my family's struggles and triumphs with adjusting to dealing with a Gluten Free (GF) diet for our household. Celiac Disease is fairly common, or so all my reading this past two weeks have told me. This is where it begins....I remember the day well. Early January. My day off. Prior to Christmas my husband had ingestion problems and pains in his chest. After ruling out heartache, bloodwork was done. He got the call to say he had to see a specialist as his bloodwork showed postive for Celiac Disease. Then I got the call from him. My first thought...What the heck is Celiac Disease and is he contagious? We got off the phone and my computer got a good work out. There is much information on Celiac Disease. I felt sick. We spent the weekend in a daze. That weekend I ordered every possible GF book and Celiac Disease book available. Who knew I wouldn't be able to read 10 books at once! Days passed. The more I read the more I realized what a positive thing this was for our family. Any other diagnosis would have been far worse. Stay tuned as I will continue to share... | My GF RantWelcome! I am a wife and mother of 3 great kids. My hubby has recently been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Our eating world needs to change! ArchivesCategories |
